He started his career in Shell Petroleum Development Company Nigeria, Warri as a materials expert under contract in the estate services department from 1989 to 1991. He left and started his own business, trading in petroleum products as an independent marketer. He is also a specialties engineer in lubricant. He later went to Germany to acquire more technical knowledge, after which he came back and continued with petroleum products haulaging and lubricant distribution. He was a member of Petroleum Products Industrial Suppliers Association, Ikeja Lagos Branch.

He later joined MKV Ocean & Energy Services limited as an executive director, where he acquired valuable experience in marine services. Altogether, he has over 25 years of working experience in the oil & gas/marine industry.

He incorporated Makunu Oil & Allied Products Limited in 2012. He has attended several courses in management, one of which is the company direction course of the Institute of Directors (IoD) Nigeria. He is a fellow of Institute for government research leadership Technology where he was awarded fellowship in corporate governance & strategic management. He is a member of the Nigeria Association of Ship Chandlers and a Chartered Marketer.
